Tsit-YuenLam（林节玄），ProfessorofUniversityofCalifornia,BerkeleyLamearnedhisbachelor'sdegreeattheUniversityofHongKongin1963andhisPhDatColumbiaUniversityin1967underHymanBass,withathesistitledOnGrothendieckGroupsSubsequentlyhewasaninstructorattheUniversityofChicagoandsince1968hehasbeenattheUniversityofCalifornia,Berkeley,wherehebecameassistantprofessorin1969,associateprofessorin1972,andfullprofessorin1976HeservedasassistantdepartmentheadseveraltimesFrom1995to1997hewasDeputyDirectoroftheMSRIinBerkeleyAmonghisdoctoralstudentsisRichardElmanFrom1972to1974hewasaSloanFellow;in1978–79aMillerResearchProfessor;andin1981–82aGuggenheimFellowIn1982hewasawardedtheLeroyPSteelePrizeforhistextbooksIn2012hebecameafellowoftheAmericanMathematicalSociety
